    Question to all California FFL's

Have any of you received any correspondence from the California DOJ on new procedures of accepting Law Enforcement letterhead regarding the waiver of the 10 day waiting period for the purchase of handguns?

More specifically, regarding who from that agency can sign the letters. The rumor coming from California DOJ is their definition of "Head of the Agency". I can elaborate further on this, however I am just looking to see if any FFL's have received updated procedures on acceptance of their letters for CA LEO's exemption of the 10 day waiting period for a handgun purchase. Thanks!

I've had no issues either. As DOJ stipulates:

California law enforcement officers who have a[U] letter signed by the head of the [/U
American soldier by choice. Made in America by the Grace of God.

So, now it is ironic that the State whittles away at the right of its citizens to defend themselves from the possible oppression of their State.

Had a CHiPy bring a letter in on Friday and CHP changed the letter from a Lt. to the Commissioner. It is a standardized form letter.

Question still stands, how was OP notified of the rumor? Since he's asking other FFLs to confirm if they were notified it would help to know if it was a phone call, random talk with an agent, a letter with some writing on it, notification in DES via the My Issues Log, etc...

Unless of course he is starting the rumor,

Let me just say I am an LEO so the information I am getting from my end is reliable. However, I am curious if there has been any information via DES or other means to FFL's on this issue.

None via DES, none via other means. I'm surprised the DOJ cares. There are so few of these transactions that occur already. Seems like they like to work on regulations where they can make them up and not where they will actually make a difference.

Out of the handful (50-60) known LEO transactions I've done I only remember processing 1 with a letter. The reason I say "known" is that they only flash their credentials if it's to get hi-cap mags or roster exemption. There may be several more long gun transactions I've done with LEOs and not known.

Thanks for the information. In my opinion, I feel a particular LE agency is being targeted by CA DOJ for political reasons over an issue that has nothing to do with this particular one.

Received head of Agency Bulletin via DES today. No LEO transfers with wait exemption unless agency head signs letter. This means no watch commander, department head or Big boss underlings signing exemption letter, ONLY the Sheriff of the County or City Chief of Policy or State Corrections Officer Leader will be able to authorize 10 day wait exemptions going forward.

I kind of wonder how much this was "abused".

Probably very little abuse. Some DOJo desk jockey was tasked with making sure DOJ policies had no wiggle room in them and were as controlling as possible.
