Dealer to Purchase from Another Dealer for Transfer Fee Discount?

Hello. I thought I read somewhere that certain dealers will purchase a gun from another dealer on my behalf, then sell it to me to avoid or lower transfer fees.

Is this true? If so, are there any in So-Cal that you can recommend?

    Thank you.

You've got a very convoluted way of asking a simple question. Pretty much any dealer will do what you want, which is just asking for a special order; it's just a matter of determining which way is cheaper.

      1) You buy something from a non-local dealer, pay the cost, plus shipping if not free (and tax if from within state). Then you pay your local dealer the DROS fee, his transfer fee (and tax if it's from out-of-state).
      2) You ask your local dealer to order the firearm, you pay him his asking price (which is usually his cost plus some markup), plus DROS and tax.

If his and your cost is the same, then the bottomline is whether his markup is greater than his transfer fee. Eitherway you pay the cost of the firearm, DROS fee and tax. But in some cases, your local dealer can get a better price than you; for example, many manufacturers have dealer pricing. In such a case, his markup might be quite a bit less than the dealer discount plus transfer fee, and having him place the order works out better.

Thanks for the reply dachan, you're absolutely right about everything (including the way I asked the question haha). I don't know why I didn't think about it that way, but thanks for making it crystal clear.
