    Question for online retailers

We are a small online retailer that specializes in firearm magazines, and we are also a supporting vendor here on Calguns. We have a customer who has ordered from us five times over the past six weeks, and each time they order, the transactions get larger and larger. They have placed two orders in the last 48 hours totaling about $4000 (for us these are large orders). The customer always buys the same two magazines, they use the same credit card, and have them shipped to the same address, and the shipping and billing address are the same. We always ship requiring a signature at time of delivery. Until this last order, I just figured they were reselling the mags, but after this last order I was a little concerned and inquired about what they were doing with all the mags. They responded they cannot answer that question. To me that was a red flag, although I do respect the fact they didn't just lie and make something up. So my question is, do you guys limit the amount of merchandise your customers can purchase? How would you handle this situation? Thanks for your time and feedback.

        Large chargebacks, credit card fraud.

Thanks for the feedback. I've done my research on the customer and address. The shipping address is a townhouse.

Fraud was my first impression. I work in the payments industry and that tactic is very common. They will start small to test the waters then go big and bigger. It's not difficult to wait for the package to arrive at the place and sign for it.

For all we know the true home owner/ credit card holder is on vacation somewhere and this person just orders, gets tracking number (I would have priority overnight because of guaranteed time) and wait outside of house for delivery guy.

If I was ripping you off I would do just that. Of course it can be all innocent but fraud is very high in our industry and you wouldn't believe how stupid some people can be in their attempts and how sophisticated others are.

I just had some fraudulent charges removed from my Capital One card. All kinds of bad stuff going on now. Lap top got infected with some malware.

Thanks for sharing. It's helpful to hear someone's perspective from within the payments industry.

Google the email and see what websites it shows up on. Also look on the header and footer and get the ip and see where it originates from.

Thanks for the suggestions, the IP address checked out.

We ended up paying a company called Riskified to do an additional review on the transactions. If they approve the transactions, which they did, they will allegedly reimburse you for the transaction amount if it turns out to be fraudulent. It was a little pricey, but less expensive than losing a good customer.
