    Proof of Residency - Rental/Residential Leases/Agreements/Contracts?

The official CA website (http://oag.ca.gov/firearms/resprf) regarding proof of residency for buying a handgun is a little confusing when it comes to rental/residential leases/agreements/contracts.

I'm looking to buy my first handgun (have already gone through the DROS process for numerous long guns), but I live with my parents and don't have a vehicle in my name, so I don't have any of the typical proof of residency options available.

So I'm looking to write up a rental agreement (or residential lease) with my dad, as that appears to be the easiest/cheapest option right now.

    Three questions:

    1. Are "residential leases" and "rental agreements" treated as two different proof of residency options according to CA law? I noticed the oag.ca.gov website said the rental agreement has to be notarized, but it didn't say the residential lease needed notarization. That leads me to believe they are two separate options.

    2. What all needs to be contained within the lease/agreement/contract? Any specifics, other than the address, names, dates within the past 30 days (or is it three months?), payment amount, and signatures? (And possibly notarization.)

    3. Does it make any difference that my dad doesn't own the house? We are renting; I don't know how subletting would play into all of this, or if it even makes any difference since I'm already a legal resident of the place.

Some input from FFLs would be appreciated (particularly if you've accepted residential/rental leases/agreements before).

Notary not needed. Your form can be as simple as:

The DOJ is basically looking for a 2nd person to sign off on your address. They don't care about the details really. For your 3 questions:
    1) don't think there's a difference between the 2 docs
    2) see template above
    3) no

Thanks! Just what I needed to know.

So I guess nothing changed in 2014 regarding the handgun buying process.
