NICS Check in CA???

My question from this thread, ... please correct me if I'm wrong. Even though we fill out the 4473 we don't get a NICS background check because CA has chosen not to be a part of that system. The background check is some percentage of applicants being run through the DROS system by the CA DOJ, the 4473 is just a dealer record.

Would like to hear directly from the people who do the work what actually happens. Thank you!

I'm pretty sure they do run it. I ALWAYS keep a copy of my DROS and 4473 forms. Every one Has an NICs approval number hand written in.

It would be great if someone who is an FFL would confirm how the background check system actually works, what checks are done and by what agencies. I thought I knew but I'm starting to think I was wrong. Would like to know, bet others are curious as well.

I have no idea what agency and what checks are done. I submit a transaction with the DOJ in California. I'm told they use the same federal NICS as part of their check + other stuff. Can't confirm or deny because in reality I do not know.

On a previous DROS delay that ran over into this year here at Golden State Tactical, the State sent a copy of their DROS delay info with a NICS number on it. From that I would assume they run it when they get our DROS info.
