    Consignment sales..what's the process??

I've been an FFL for about 25 years. I've never done nor thought of doing "consignment" sales, for one reason, I don't know the process.
I've looked through threads and can't locate any info on the topic.

Can someone explain in detail what the process involves?

    Thanks

You go to any FFL dealer that takes in consignment sales. You decide on what you want for it. The dealer does paper work on the gun. There is a percent fee the dealer charges(around in my area, it is normally 20%). It is held by the FFL for thirty days before it can be sold. It is put out for sale. When sold, you get your money for the sale.

I guess I may have not stated my case well......
      I am an FFL..........
What is the process that I must follow to take in a consignment gun??
i.e. What paperwork must I do as a dealer when I take the gun in; A&D..OK,
      what else?
Hold the gun for 30 days.....OK
      It gets sold...now what...........?

You have to do the FDAS, which is now part of the DES system. There is a form which you need to print out and get the person to sign/thumbprint. You should also have your own form (contract) detailing the arrangement (percentages, return of the firearm, which requires a DROS & $25).

You can sell it before the 30 days, but you can't release it. This could present a problem is something happens with the firearm/owner and the police come and get the firearm.

Kemasa...Thanks very much for your info...
            Another question....
Does an FFL need a second license/permit to do consignments??
Perhaps another silly question but I find no "FDAS" heading in the DES page??
Maybe you could explain what FDAS stands for..........

Where does one find DOJ references to "consignment" sales and/or something outlining the officiallyprocess? either by Penal Code reference or.....??

You either need a secondhand permit or a letter saying that they don't issue it in your area.

Under DES, it is "Submit Acquisition".

It looks like they nuked all of the FDAS web pages, instead of referencing to the new system.

FDAS is Firearms Dealer Acquisition System. It used to be separate from the DROS system, until the CA DOJ took over the DROS system, which is now often call DES.
