    Switch caliber handgun

Is it illegal to build, or own, a switch caliber handgun. I have just finished putting together a switch caliber handgun, based on a 1911 Gov't 45acp that I have had for years. It has no illegal parts, that is, no threaded barrel, or other items.
I was telling a buddy, who is a reserve Deputy about this, and he told me it was illegal to do so, or have. He has been wrong before, but I didn't want to correct him untill I had gotten an answer here first.
I don't believe it is illegal, but I have been known to be wrong before myself.

Can you go into detail in how you did it? I wonder about the guns which can naturally shoot multiple different types. 38 special and 357 mag, 10mm can shoot .40 S&W, etc. etc.

My M1911s are all "switch caliber handguns" when I stick my Ciener conversion kit on them. Or does "switch caliber handgun" mean something else?

Artema, I posted how I did it in "Gunsmithing" about a week ago. Currently, I can switch between 45acp, 9mm, and 38 Super. If I can ever locate a 10mm slide and barrel I can put that on. Plus do a 40 cal barrel. Eventually I plan on getting a 22 conversion kit.

Cool. But how is that legally different than buying Lone Wolf barrels for a Glock? I know a lot of people buy a Glock 23 and then just swap in 9mm or 357 SIG barrels. My brother does that exact thing.

That was pretty much my point. I just wanted to make sure I was right.

Nothing illegal about it. You can search the CA PC, but that only states that which is illegal, not what is legal.

Ask for the CA PC which makes it illegal from your friend.
