    DROS a SSE to yourself

Have any of you guys ever transferred a revolver to yourself using the SSE?
I have a double action S&W 629 in my inventory that is not on the roster that I would like to transfer to myself using the SSE...but I want to do it legally. This gun will then be stored at my cabin in Alaska. Any advice?

Follow the same process as with a customer. Make sure the barrel is long enough, convert it to single action, and DROS under the Single Action exemption. What sort of advice were you looking for?

The SSE does not apply to revolvers, it would be a SAE (single action exemption). Otherwise, it is the same.

If you have a residence in Alaska, you might see if you qualify as a dual resident, then you could have the firearm transferred in Alaska to you.

Thanks...I will look into the dual resident idea.

Can an FFL DROS an off-roster handgun in SSE configuration to himself, and If so, since he is exempt from the 10 day wait, can he immediately log it into his bound book and into his personal collection? If so, it would appear there is a really short period of time that the firearm is actually in SSE configuration. Am I seeing this clearly? Thanks in advance for input.

Depending how the FFL is setup they are NOT always exempt from the 10 day wait. I am not exempt from the 10 day wait because I am an LLC.

If, however, your FFL has your name on it (vs LLC, DBA, etc...) then yes the firearm is in an SSE config for a very short time.

The only difference from 2009 is that long guns must now be DROSd too.

ugimports thanks for the info. I am a sole proprietor so no 10 day wait. Since essentially I would convert to SSE config, DROS to me, and immediately convert back to stock config, how can I prove that it was ever in SSE config??
I assume the only way a 10 day wait SSE config can be proven is if a DOJ inspection is made during the wait?? Obviously I haven't done an SSE before so pardon all the questions!

There is no proof required. Remember that you sign the DROS documents under penalty of perjury.

As said, no proof is required, but taking a picture can document that it really was a SSE.

Is the DROS required for sole proprietor dealer transfer to self? Or just put the transaction in the log book and it is done?

A DROS is now required for all firearm transfers, regardless if the person is a FFL. The CA DOJ is recording the serial number. No 4473 would be required for a sole proprietor though.

Remember, CA law is different than Federal law.

Someone at your shop is 10 day wait exempt. Who has their name on the CFD? The CA DOJ considers them 10 day wait exempt even if your name is not on the FFL. One of my partners and I each have our name on our own CFD. We are both ten day wait exempt. Our third partner is a responsible person, but does not have a CFD. She is not.

Dang, I've been waiting 10 days for nothing. I was going off your old post here:
