Colt ar15s not being able to pass DROs?

I am an individual and upon visiting my local firearms dealer I noticed that only his colt ar15s had an orange tag which meant it was available to LEOs only. I asked the owner and he said for some reason that him and other ffls were having trouble with the new colts passing DROs since 2014 started. He said they all had bullet buttons and we CA legal and didn't know why was going on.. Anyways he has a large selection of colts and will not sell to me. Anyone know what's going on with that?

I believe Colt AR-15's are banned by name?

The Colt LE6920 is banned by name. The CA legal are rollmarked Colt M4 therefore CA legal. There is no diff (other than the BB).

The new DES (DROS Entry System) is automatically (incorrectly) blocking many brands from legal transfer by designating them as Assault Weapons. As part of the new DES and long gun registration requirement, the dealer enters the make of the rifle through a drop down menu. Several makes are automatically being flagged as Assault Weapons irregardless of what model is being sold when the DROS is submitted and thus being blocked from legal sale. One interesting anomaly is the first "Russia" entry is being blocked but the second "Russia" entry is fine. I would not surprised if all Colt, Armalite, Bushmaster, Olympic and PWA transfers are being blocked.

"That chart" is still very valid, and if you refer to Appendix A of the
Roberti-Roos AW list it specifies "Colt: AR-15 (all)".

Per your OP...YOU stated "colt ar15", therefore it is banned by name.

No disrespect just trying to pinpoint my confusion.. I mentioned the date of that chart because as to my facts, the ffl stated he was having trouble since the start of 2014.... So my point was that the chart was the wrong path to follow hence that there was something ELSE going on. In this case it wasn't mistAke about it being a colt le6920 when It should have been colt le6920ca.

Anyways.. So one theory that it may be banned in the dres system and another statement of having no issues at all.. If anyone else can chime in to help me find out if it's just this deAler or others are having problems

Exactly. And the CA legal Colt M4 Carbine is not on the list, although it is IDENTICAL to the Colt LE6920. The M4 Carbine even has serial numbers beginning with 'LE'.

I personally know an FFL here who lost out on $4500 in sales from ONE customer just in December alone, because he didn't know the difference.

Maybe the dealer is inputting the wrong colt nAme in his dres system?

No worries! Based off of what has been posted above, I would guess that it is a DES issue, or your FFL is entering the information incorrectly.

Best of luck, I hope you get it worked out.

He wouldn't even DROS them. The customer had already purchased two Colts online and was having them shipped to that dealer. The customer went to another dealer in town, who had the shipment redirected to him. The loss to the original dealer comes not from the two M4's purchased online, but from the customer's OTHER purchases during the month of December. The customer purchased several more long guns directly from the second dealer.

The first dealer wouldn't listen to the customer when he explained why the Colts he ordered were CA legal. The customer is no longer doing business with the first dealer. No hard feelings, it's just too much trouble dealing with somebody who doesn't know their own profession.
