    Are 28" shotguns illegal now?

I ordered a Weatherby PA-08 28" before Christmas. It finally came in so I went to DROS it today. Input all my info into the computer and when the FFL was inputing the gun info, it red flagged it saying a shotgun has to be between 18 and 26 inches. Have any of the FFL's in here ran into that? Now I have to wait for the FFL to contact DOJ, then wait for a reply. Not a big deal but it wasted 40 minutes out of my day over something that should be so simple.

    Not illegal.

Would have a lot of unhappy Californians, since many sporting shotguns have >26" barrels.

FFL probably inputted something incorrect on the form.

    I've never understood the self-confessors....

You're probably right. I don't know their system but I watched them input the info as they have a second screen for the customer to verify info on and all the info looked correct to me. I bought the same shotgun last year but need to replace it since my kid has laid claim to it.

another FFL mentioned the same problem the other day. He contacted CADOJ and they said to just put in 26" with a notation that it had a 28" barrel and that CADOJ would fix the problem eventually.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

No they are not illegal. On Jan 1, 2014 the CA DOJ switched over to a new system to enter information for the background check. This is a known error. They are just supposed to select another length and make a note of it in the system until the DOJ can update the system. The DES (DROS entry system) support hotline is open for FFLs 7am-11pm, 7 days per week. Your FFL can call to confirm the above.
You think you know, but you have no idea.

The information posted here is not legal advice. If you seek legal advice hire an attorney who is familiar with all the facts of your case.

That's good to hear. My FFL kind of freaked out when I suggested to input it as a 26" and put "28" barrel" in the comments. He didn't want to do anything until he heard from DOJ. You would think this kind of stuff wouldn't be an issue.
