DOJ Deleting "My Issue Log" Entries

Some of you who have reported an issue via the "Report an Issue" link may have noticed that issues considered "resolved" by the DOJ no longer appear in your "My Issues Log", even though you haven't deleted them.

If the DOJ makes a recommendation in one of your "My Issues" conversations, and you rely on that recommendation, especially where they advise you to act in contradiction with the letter of the law, print out the conversation record as soon as you view it. If you're savvy enough, I recommend printing it with date/time headers configured from your browser (otherwise, just make a note of the date and time when you printed it on the back).

Otherwise, once they delete it on their end, you will have no record of the conversation.

For those of you contacting the DOJ by phone, I would also make a written record of that conversation either as you have it, or immediately thereafter. Make sure to note the date and time of the call and the ID or name of the person with whom you spoke.

This may seem remedial for some, but in the stress of the moment, we often don't think to do this (or opt to skip it).

For bonus points, if it's relevant, and if you'd like to help out your fellow FFLs, type up that record (redacting as necessary) and either append it to an existing thread here, or start a new one. (Some of you have been doing this already, which is great. Thank you!)

Simple solution is to install "Foxit" pdf reader on your work computer, and as soon as you get a response, print the response page to a .pdf file and store it in a folder labeled "DOJ Responses" or something like that.

Makes keeping track of these things super easy. Foxit is a free download. If you already have Adobe Acrobat installed, then it should be able to do the same thing.

You have to select "print to pdf" in the drop down when your printer dialog prompt pops up. Just make sure to again select your paper printer when you need to print up a DROS or anything else.

Kemasa got me scanning the customer agreement sheets, and safe affidavit, so it is always on file should a customer decide to come back for another purchase... Printing to pdf is a good use of current technology, plus the date/time stamp is there by default for you.

Those of you who are thrilled that you can now use your relatively modern version of Firefox on your relatively modern Mac should be able to do something like this (note the Date/Time selection in the footer):



Other browsers (Safari, Chrome) have similar footer options.

Depending on the distro and version, those of you using Firefox on Linux may need to install CUPS-PDF (in lieu of Foxit or Acrobat), but otherwise it should be relatively similar to Boogaloo's instructions.
