    DES card reader problems

Have only run one so far, but the system hacked up a fur ball.

Ran the card ( strip was good), it filled in all the info, then flickered and erased all the info. Then gave me a invalid id notice. But I was able to put it all in by hand with no invalid id notice.

    Anyone else have this happen?

The one DROS I did didn't catch the birth date. Tried twice.

I've had it work perfect sometimes and other times it leaves out the DOB or other random fields. Problems seem to happen moe with the "old" style licenses.

Of course we still have the problem of "III" being encoded as "3RD" on the mag stripe and needing to be changed manually. This and the tendency to have last name populate suffix when there are two middle names. This is a DMV issue though....

It happened here too. Flickered and emptied the fields . Had to enter by hand . Was a newer D/L too.

Same problem here, I've had to enter manually several times already. Each time DES would then error upon hitting Preview saying City and State were not entered. Hitting Preview one more time then works.

I just spoke to a nice lady because my mag reader didn't work. She said I have to buy a new "3 track" mag reader. Did everyone else have to change over or is it just my luck?

I have the original card reader and it almost always says invalid ID. I filled out an issue and was told that I would have to buy a new reader because the older readers had a problem. I responded that their changes which break things should not result in my having to pay money for a new reader. I got no response and the issue vaporized.

Well crap...how much is a 3 track card reader? I'm sick of entering everything by hand.

I have been checking them out online and they are only $25 and up. The issue is that their change makes us buy new equipment and nobody ever said anything. According to my records the Magtek 21040145 that I bought is supposed to be a 3 track reader.

I may have to call DOJ, I am sure that they will answer right away if they know it's me.............

So you have a 3 track and still not working? I don't want to buy another and have it still not work.

You guys that have readers that work what are you using?

I've still got the Magtek USB I've been using since 2006. It only drops the birthdate every so often.

I've noticed that the new system drops some fields but overall reads more licenses that the previous system would reject. I'm ok with the overall performance.

Must have been issues with the buyers license. I just ran my own through as a test and it filled everything in correctly. It still showed me as over weight and old, but it did copy it correctly. LOL

Overall, I do like the new format. It takes some getting used to, but I think it is friendlier than the old system. I had issues with the old one charging me twice if I did a correction. Verizon didn't care.
