so does that mean that we now have "handgun", "long gun" and "receiver only" options in DES, so that it more closely matches the 4473?

I see where you are going with this. When I DROS a lower, I will let you know how it turns out. We still have CFLC that has to be long gun or handgun though.

Nope, when you choose receiver the only options now are "Rifle" "Rifle/Shotgun" "Shotgun"
