    Customer in Hospital w/Back Surgery

Did a transfer for a customer. His ten day wait is up today. He had back surgery on Saturday. He is in the hospital and will be released tomorrow. He wants to pick up his firearm on the way home from the hospital. I'm concerned that he might be on pain medication. Should I release the firearm to him or wait until he is feeling better?

Read a 4473. If you believe he is now a prohibited person, and/or cannot re-certify that the answers to 11a-l & 12 remain the same, then you have cause to deny him the pickup. Otherwise, you can release the firearm.

Unless he comes in all loopy give him the gun. If he's been prescribed pain meds then he's been PRESCRIBED therefore not illegal, not an addict, etc...

Almost sounds as if I were to get back surgery and get pain meds from my doctor I'd have to surrender my firearms, or that would seem to be the expectation?

I can tell you one thing: I don't volunteer personal information to people, including an FFL, and this is just one reason why.

If he comes in high as a kite, I would explain that I couldn't give him the gun yet and come back when he's on less meds. On the other hand, if I went into my gun shop to pick something up and they refused to turn it over simply because they thought I might be on legal pain meds they would never see another penny of my money and I likely would trash them every chance I got.

what part of the OP's statement would give anyone reason to not do business with them? concern for a customers wellbeing before releasing a firearm to them looked to be the question.

It sounds like in general folks don't like others "keeping them safe".. it's no different than CA DOJ trying to lookout for our well being with the CA DOJ Roster.. in their mind they are doing what's right to keep the children safe right?
