Question on taking guns out of state

First of all: Merry Christmas everyone

Second my question: I am selling a good friend of mine two of my older (C&R guns) Colts. He lives in Miami Florida and I will be bringing them with me on the airplane (in checked baggage, of course) when I visit there for New Years.

He will deal with the FLA laws on C&R guns (probably no laws knowing FLA) but what do I need to do with respect to the CA DOJ? I want to make sure they are no longer registered in my name, but hope I don't have to go through a FFL01 on my end.

BTW I do have a FFL03 if that helps

    Thanks!!

FFL 03 is required, since this is interstate (if the guns were not C&R, a regular FL FFL would be needed.)

There is no mechanism to un-register guns with CA-DOJ. Keep the records your 03 license requires and you are fine.

There is a 'no longer in possession' form, but that doesn't delete anything, and requires a lot of invasive information given to CA that your friend might not care for them to have.

When you log them out of your bound book, be sure to log them out the the FFL in Florida. The FFL in Florida with then log them in to his bound book and then he will log them out to your friend.

        Thanks guys,

I have a FFL 03 but both of these guns were registered in Cali via a FFL01 (they were both original CA guns). I bought them both via PPT within the last 10 years or so.

So if I take them to FLA and hand them over to him based on his FFL03 and then do a "no longer in possession" form back in Cali then I'm "ok" (pretty sure he will give me all the personal info that form requires.)????

At the end of the day the most important thing to me it to be in full compliance with CA law.

You and he can do that, but there is no strong reason to do it. CA really does not care about guns leaving.
