intra-familial transfer and new long gun reg.

    Hello all,

I wanted to give my father a long gun that I purchased for X-mas. When I fill out the DOJ form, if it occurs after 12/31/13 will he have to then do the new safety demonstrations for long guns? Or will I still be able to just submit the paper work and the fee?

    Thank you for your time.

If you both are in CA, just the form. Should be a new version of the OPLAW with places for long gun info.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

The new owner is the one who sends in the OpLaw/Intrafamily form. So if you give a long gun to your father next year, he will need to submit the form, not you.

When I search the CA DOJ's site only thing I can find is the intra-familial hand gun form, nothing about long guns?

            Wait until next year.

So if i were to gift the long gun before 1/1/14 then no paperwork is needed then correct?

So long as both are CA residents (you did not say, and interstate is different), yes, no doc required in 2013.

Apologies for not clarifying. Yes, we are both CA residents. Thank you for your information.
