    Step Dad

Can a step dad give his step son a hand gun without paper work? Checked the forms and could not find the answer. Thanks.

Not an FFL but I have seen this question asked. The answer was "No, but his spouse (the bio parent) can."

Step-parent can transfer via intra-familial gift only if the step-parent legally adopted the step-child.

If no legal adoption was done, then the step-parent can not transfer via intra-familial gift.

The step-parent can gift to their spouse (parent), who could then gift to their child.

However, it was be less expensive and time consuming for the step-parent to PPT a firearm to the step-child.

Age restrictions, HSC, etc still apply for any legal method of transfer.
