Selling and Shipping a Handgun within Ca

I live in L.A. and would like to sell a CA Rostered handgun to a person who lives in San Fransisco and I'm not really sure of the procedure.
I've been told by local FFLs that the firearm could be sent directly to an FFL in San Fransisco and that FFL would handle the transfer to the new buyer up north.
My question is there is no paperwork on my end of the transaction...how do I protect myself.

Any qualified advice would be appreciated!

First off see if the FFL in SF will accept the firearm from you.

Secondly you should include with the gun a receipt stating its a private occasional sale from you to them and that you are not a business. That way he doesn't have to pay tax on his end. Include a copy of your ID too as the other FFL will want to know where it came from.

Third you can keep the gunbroker/ calguns or whatever page showing you sold it. Keep your receipt from the carrier you chose to send gun out showing date and tracking number to prove you sent it out.

The FFL will be required to log into their A&D book where they got the gun from and then they will have to dispose it to the buyer with a 4473 and DROS. Once its received by that FFL and he logs it those records are kept for a minimum of 20 years per ATF requirements. His records and the 4473 and dros will keep you "safe"

You can also use the ATF EZ check system to verify you sent your gun to a licensee. You can print this page too and keep with your records. Another safeguard for yourself.

Some FFL's wont accept firearms from individuals though. If you have trouble with this we are in West Covina and I have no problem sending a gun up north for you. Just as long as you pay the shipping costs.

If you ship it you have to send it FedEx/UPS overnight, which is expensive. A FFL can ship it USPS, which is far cheaper (depending on the FFL's fees), especially if a regional box is used.

Once you sent it, you can also fill out the CA DOJ no longer in possession form.

You are fairly close to me and I can ship it for you. I would need the info from the other FFL first and get a copy of their FFL. It would need to be ready to ship, other than the box, which I have. Send me a PM with the zip code of where it is going and the approx. size and what you want to insure it for and I can give you an estimate of what it would cost to ship it. For example, a regional B box is $7.36 for shipping, plus insurance and the A box is $5.44.
