    Transferring a longarm: ID required?

    Greetings all!

So, I recently sold I stripped lower receiver on Gunbroker, and I'm getting ready to ship it.

From what I've been told, all that is necessary is for me to ship it to the buyer's local FFL... however, they want me to include a copy of my ID and they want to know where I was born...

Now, I've sold longarms before (this receiver is for a longarm), and I didn't have to give the dealer anything. They just filled out the paperwork after the buyer gave them his ID.

Has this changed? I'm naturally inclined to not give anyone a copy of my ID unless I absolutely have to...

If it matters, I'm shipping to another part of California...

    Thanks!

The dealer has to log it in the bound book and where it came from. Without ID most dealers will not receive it.

If you do not want to include a copy of your ID you can always ship through a local FFL (for an added cost) but they will typically get a copy of your ID.

There is no reason for them to ask where you were born.

The FFL does not have to accept firearms from non-FFLs and since the FFL has to log where the firearm came from, it is not uncommon for the FFL to ask for a copy of an ID to document where it came from. Some FFLs don't care. I don't think it is unreasonable to black out some of the information on the ID, as long as it can be determined that the ID is valid.

As said, you can ship it through a FFL, who might just look at your ID or might want to make a copy.
