Not at all. It is a matter of requesting additional information which is not required and serves no purpose. A copy of a FFL does not mean that the FFL is still valid.
That is funny. Perhaps some FFLs did not have problem sending copies of their FFL, and I have no doubt that some still do that, but to make such a general statement like that is just a joke. Also, if some FFLs decide that it is no longer a good idea and not needed, it just means that they are getting smarter :-).Until recently, FFls had no problem sending a copy of their license to a seller
A FFL who gives out the their FFL and has a problem, then it will change....no one demanded anything it was just the way we did business. I appreciate finding a ffl who still does it that way. That's the way I like it.
Tomy knowledge, not many ffl's have ever been asked to send their birth certificates, marriage licenses etc. to sellers.
Bottom line...kemasa... feel free to send whatever you want.
I like that some FFL still give out their FFL or even post it on their web page as it makes it less likely for those who don't give out their FFLs to be abused.
It does not matter who is committing the crime, does it? For identity theft the is a victim and a criminal. Victims learn to restrict what information that they give out. The FFL still has to deal with it. No one is holding the criminal blameless at all, but that sounds good for your argument. If you leave your house and vehicle unlocked, who is to blame if someone steals things? Actually, it is both you and the criminal. Your responsibility does not reduce the responsibility of the criminal, but you would have made it easy for the criminal to steal from you. So, should you lock your house and vehicle or not?
Consider the 4473, especially in CA, where you can put down your social security number. It says it is optional, but it is not used in CA at all, yet some people put it down because it is on the form. I tell people that it is optional and that I would prefer that they not put it down. What does your FFL tell you? Do you just put it down?
Instead, people who view their data under the need to know concept. If it is optional, you should invoke your option. Even if it is not said to be optional, you need to decide if you really want to give out your personal information. There have been cases where people at credit card companies abused the data that they were given.Kemasa.
