    Thumb print debate...

We have a debate going on...where do you put the thumb print when completing the 4473 form? On the form or on the copy of the Drivers License or somewhere else.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

What thumb print for the 4473? There isn't a thumb print required for the 4473. Are you asking about the DROS instead? The thumb print is usually placed on the back of the DROS printout.

Our first week in business I spent some time with a local FFL friend that does a lot of volume. He told me that DOJ guys likes to see the thumbprint on the top front of the DROS next to the CA logo.

              Copied from CA DOJ website:

              32. Are firearms dealers required to capture the thumbprint on the DROS form for each firearm recipient?
Yes. The firearms dealer must require the firearm recipient to place his or her right thumbprint, in black ink, on the back of the DROS form. If the recipient is unable to comply, then the dealer should contact the DOJ at (916) 263-4887 for instructions.

@allpoint- thanks for the clarification. I will be putting the thumbprint on the back of the DROS.

I make a habit of circling it too...it helps if the customer has a light print.

Some CA DOJ inspectors want it on the front of the form as it is easier for them, but I say if that is what they want, then they should change the law.
