Bay Area FFL with "High" Capacity Magazine Permit

I want to transfer a rostered handgun from out of state. It comes with 2 16-rounders.

I'm looking for an FFL in the Bay Area/Sacramento and points west (north or east bay preferred) to transfer this for me for a fair fee.

    Anybody got a suggestions?

    Thanks!

If you are not exempt, I think a FFL can transfer the gun(if it is on the roster) but not the magazines. You would need to do the gun handling test with a 10 round magazine. That is my understanding of the law.

Which I do have, but I'd rather not waste the $80-100 worth of magazines...

there is nothing in the law that says that the HSD must be done with a non-large-cap mag.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

The magazines can be taken apart and shipped to you directly as a parts kits. Some FFLs don't want to deal with the parts and the CA DOJ has said that the FFL can not take the magazines apart (gray area?), but can modify them to hold 10 rounds or less.

As said, any magazine works for the safety demo. You can bring one with you.

I am aware of this but FFLs cannot take them apart.

Out of state FFLs can take them apart, it is only an issue for CA FFLs, although the law does not seem to prevent it, as well as other issues in the law regarding said magazines.

Some shops refuse to break down the mags. Period. They either ship the gun with the mags or without.

I don't know why, not my shop, not my rules. But that's why the OP is looking for an FFL to accept them.

Yes, but according to the CA DOJ, a CA FFL can not take them apart. Another option is to use a middleman FFL to do what needs to be done.

A middleman FFL I know if is:

Transfer fee of $10, plus shipping. Any work to make the firearm CA legal, such as a BB, is charged at shop rate with a half hour minimum ($35). There is no problem sending to two addresses (ie. ammo, accessories, non-firearm items direct to the buyer and the registered part to the FFL). For more information contact them through their website.

OC Armory is blocking my 18 rounders to 10. They wouldn't give me the rebuilds.

I called two places in San Diego about standard capacity mags. One shop breaks down your purchased mags for you then sells them back to you as rebuilds at market price. The other shop gives them as rebuilds. Go figure
