That is what I thought. So the OP is just dealing with Turner's wanting to cover their butt (and collect a fee).

DROS twice for same gun?

Nope. I posted what the feds allow, but you still have to comply with state law as well. State law allows the owner to give his firearm to an FFL (Turners) for repair, and for the FFL to give him back the same firearm, without needing to reDROS it or wait 10-days. CA law does not allow the FFL to give the owner back a replacement firearm without doing a new DROS or 10-day wait.Jack
Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

So then had the OP sent his rifle in himself there would have been no reDROS?Nope. I posted what the feds allow, but you still have to comply with state law as well. Turners didn't charge me for shipping since I bought the rifle with them. They did however charge me for the reDros and told me to collect that fee from Ruger. You do know you didn't have to have Turner's do the shipping right? You can actually utilize the Post Office to ship a rifle. What did Turner's charge you for letting them ship it? I would have liked to see what would have happened had you sent the rifle back yourself.Comment

Turner's didn't charge you for shipping since Ruger paid for it, not out of the kindness of their heart because you bought the rifle there. Had you called Ruger they would have been just as happy to send you a prepaid label to ship the rifle back to them.
If you ask Ruger will send you a check for the reDROS (they did for my pistol) or had you dealt with Ruger yourself they would have at your request also sent a magazine or two for your troublesComment

This brings up another question then. If they are going to treat a replacement gun (rifle/pistol) as an entirely new purchase how does it work if the weapon is no longer legal in CA? Such as my Ruger SR22 pistol (which was one of the ones I had replaced) that just dropped off the DOJ list or after 1 Jan 14 all those semi-auto rifles?
How can you reDROS something that is illegal in CA?
You would dros it under the exemption tab on the dros page. It's not that the gun is illegal if its off roster. There are exceptions to the roster.Interstate Transfers $100 (DROS included with the price)

Ok as far as a pistol goes then but you didn't address the long guns that WILL be illegal if 374 is signed. Those won't be off-roster they will be illegal to purchase and if the DOJ wants to treat a replacement rifle as a new purchase how does that work? This brings up another question then. Is there currently an exemption for one of the original registered AWs if one were to be replaced by a manufacturer under a warranty issue? Yes I know those are probably all WELL past any kind of warranty that was offered back then but some rifles now are sold with a lifetime warranty and others would be well within warranty for a while after 374 was signed.Comment

OK...is there a working phone number someone can give me for the DOJ
I need to get a live person on the line. The fact that they APPROVED one rifle and DELAYED another within 24 hrs is completely ridiculous. There is obviously a mistake from the DOJ. Either delay me for the whole thing or don't delay me at all...
If anyone can direct me to the phone number, I would be gratefulComment
