    Acquiring Inventory without CLFD

I'm wondering if it's possible to start building my inventory without being on the CLFD? I have a friend with an FFL who has a few long rifle's that I'd like to purchase to eventually sell as store inventory but can I acquire them without being on the CLFD? The ATF rep told me I'm not able to sell any firearms until I get on the CLFD, but he didn't say I couldn't allocate them to my inventory.

    Thanks in advance.

      Afterthought.

Either way you will need to have the shipment form sent to you from your firends FFL to yours. This requires you to register with the CFLC. Possibly you are mistaking the CFLC with your CDF#?

I should be getting my FFL this week or by next. I'm not sure if I confused the two, I'm trying to take it one step at a time and have been going by the librarians write up. Does the CFLC only pertain to shipments? Is this necessary if the two FFL's are in the same city and can be done in person?

I'm at the stage of waiting for the FFL so I can apply for my local biz license, CLFD, the secondhand dealer license locally then continue down the list of instructions/forms. So no, I'm not on the CFLC.

Anytime you receive a firearm from another FFL it requires the CFLC shipment form.

Your CDF# is the number listed with the state of CA for you do DROS guns. At the same time your CDF number is required for you to use the CFLC and receive firearms from another dealer.

Note based on my past experience, start applying for everything now. Don't wait for your FFL to come in then apply for your COE. Apply for 2nd dealer now. (2nd hand transactions will require you to get set up with the FDAS. Firearms Dealer Acquisition System)

Thanks for the heads up ace.

I have my COE and did my livescan. Didn't realize I could apply for my 2nd dealer and get into FDAS before I received my FFL. Thanks!

-edit- my city is backwards and will not issue a business license for the retail sale of firearms until I have my FFL in hand.

Don't try to start doing ANY business as a FFL until you get ALL of the licenses and permits. At a minimum, it will look really bad. Until you have all the licenses and permits, you are not allowed to do business, which included receiving firearms.

You can apply for 2nd dealer. That's issued thru DOJ from your local PD. 2nd hand has nothing to do with guns just allows you to buy from public. West Covina wanted my FFL before they issued too, but as soon as I got it I walked into clerks office and she stamped my license "valid retail sales firearms" Took all of 10 seconds to stamp say thanks and split. Hardly worth the $2.00 parking I had to pay. LOL. My city is cool though.

CA will need your FFL, local license number, COE, and sellers permit from BOE before they will issue you a CDF #.

Once you get all that stuff you can apply for your CDF#. Took a couple weeks. Not to bad. Get your hi-capacity magazine permit too. Just incase you get a LEO who wants you to order them something. Not bad to help out the po-po whenever you can. (-:

The other reason for this is so that you can order and sell firearms to people outside of CA. Also, sometimes you have to order a firearm with the so-called high capacity magazines and replace the magazines since the versions with 10 rd magazines is not available.

                      Glad to help.

It gets confusing at first when you start applying for all the permits and licenses. Just ask before you do anything if you are unsure. It never hurts to jump on here and post a question. Calguns is how I learned to handle all these gun transactions. DOJ is hard to get in touch with when you have a question. Usually you will find your answer here faster than anywhere else.
