    Information on DROS

I recently moved and updated my address at DMV, but my driver's license doesn't have the new information. At my recent purchase, the retailer swiped my card and updated my address in their store database. I put my new address on the 4473. But when he went to do the DROS, he swiped my card but didn't update anything. He just gave me all my paperwork. He didn't offer me to look over the DROS for validity nor did I think to look at it. He just gave me his copy for signature and thumbprint.

Yesterday, when I was looking at my copy of the DROS, I saw the DROS had the incorrect address.

What can I do to correct? Would this require another re-DROS? (It is the 2nd day into the 10-day.) Because he didn't offer me the chance to proofread the DROS, if there is a re-DROS, would I be expected to pay for the DROS again? Is there such a thing as sending in correct information (on his part) and not have to restart the 10-days?

    Thanks.

EDIT: They're not open yet, so I haven't called them yet. But as soon as they are open, you can bet I'll be on the phone with them. Just wanted to see about getting some information before calling.

This wont mess up your DROS. just the FFL's paperwork should have a 4473 and document why your ID doesnt match address and how they verified it. They can review and correct if necessary. Wont mess up your 10 days

But the 4473 has the correct address. DROS didn't. Still same story?

I thought the DOJ might reject if the DROS address doesn't match my DMV.

EDIT: Just got off the phone. They said they will take care of it. Whew! Had me worried.

Direct from DOJ when I called on a similar issue. They do not look at your address as part of your background check. They rely on the FFL to verify your address with proof of residency.

I would not worry about it unless it becomes an issue. The FFL should have updated your address and you should have verified the information before you signed the DROS, but what is done is done.

If the DROS has to be re-done, the FFL should pay because it was the FFL's mistake.

Some information can be updated, but it is limited. I don't recall if the address can be updated, but I don't think so.

AcePawnShop, what did you mean by the area I bolded? I have never documented why the address doesn't match. I usually just ask "is your address current?", but I don't write that down anywhere. Did I miss something somewhere? Also, how do you do an address correction on a DROS? I know I can't do it in the app. Is there another form that can be filed? I've been re-doing DROS's in the past when I screwed it up, but would prefer not to pay the extra $25 if I can help it.

and what do you do if they say that the address on the ID isn't correct? what do you do if the address on the ID isn't the same address that they wrote on the 4473?

read the instructions on the 4473 about "knowing your customer" and "alternative documentation". They'll need a gov-issued document that has their name and current address on it.

It is not the customer's problem and the DOJ doesn't care except during an audit. I was told to cross out the incorrect address on the printed DROS and write in the correct address.

GOod to know. I'll do this going forward when I munge the address. I've mistakingly messed up the address before and didn't realize it until I audited myself but that has been well past 30 days.

I am referencing line 20b on the 4473. You need to document for ATF how you verified their correct address since their ID doesn't match the address they listed on line 2 of the 4473.

I wasn't saying to document why their address didn't match, but how you verified the current one.

                    Quick typing didn't get my point accurately conveyed. (-;
