    Permanent Resident Question

Is a permanent resident required to produce a Green Card?

Reading everything it appears they are only required to provide the A-number?

Could one of you kind peeps direct me to a PDF of the exact wording of the requirement/law?

    Thanks

How would you prove the provided number is correct without them producing their card? Tried searching the PC for this and couldn't find a good answer.

I'm waiting for my replacement card and as usual they are about 6-9 months behind.

I have my passport stamped with an I-551 which lets me travel and proves my legal status to BP/HomeLand Security/DMV (just renewed my license in July).

I seem to recall reading something from the ATF that said it's the responsibility of the ATF and DOJ to verify the A-number during the background check.

I was hoping to be able to point to a document in case I run into an issue when I Dros my next purchase.

"Identification document. A document containing the name, residence address, date of birth, and photograph of the holder and which was made or issued by or under the authority of the United States Government, a State, political subdivision of a State, a foreign government, political subdivision of a foreign government, an international governmental or an international quasi- governmental organization which, when completed with information concerning a particular individual, is of a type intended or commonly accepted for the purpose of identification of individuals."

An FFL has no responsibility for verifying that
the Alien Number or Admission Number the non-
US citizen provides is genuine. The Immigration
and Naturalization Service (INS) will verify the
validity of a number during the NICS check.
However, because some FFLs have had questions
about Alien Numbers and Admission Numbers,
we wanted to provide background information
about these numbers to interested licensees.

There we go then. Found it out. Just curious if this is still the current standard. I know ATFs 4473's changed in 2012 and wondering if this is still the case. Probably is though.
