Getting an FFL in San Jose

    Hello,

I am looking to become an In-Home FFL at my residence in San Jose.

I know the first step is obtaining a business license, and I'm not sure if this is the correct form? http://www.sanjoseca.gov/DocumentCenter/View/11998

Everyone talks about getting a license that says "Valid for Retail Sale of Firearms" however, the above form does not have any place for me to put that wording. If any FFLs in the San Jose area could help me along, that would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks!

In box A11 couldn't you put "Retail Sale of Firearms"? In Fremont, I told the business license department that I needed to have the permit say "Valid for Retail Sale of Firearms" and that's what they printed up for me.

My business license literally got stamped from the city to say "valid retail sales firearms" That's all they did. But my city is easy to deal with some aren't. I would make a trip down to the clerks office and ask them what their procedures are for these sort of things.

You can try, but most likely won't succeed. Based on past experience, San Jose will not issue a business license for retail sales of firearms base at a residence. They will tell you zoning regulations prohibit it, but it's really just an internal policy.

You have to be in an unincorporated area of San Jose to be a home based ffl.

Yes, San Jose banned home FFL's under Mayor Susan Hammer in the 90's. No go. Sorry about that.
