FFL Gun Buyback

Every so often you see gun buybacks run by PDs in wiener municipalities. Why don't FFLs hold their own gun buyback events? Donate the one or two stolen/"illegal" guns to the local PD for the publicity, and get all the other ones "off the streets" and into the hands of law abiding citizens.

$50 cash for pistols, $100 cash for rifles/shotguns. Seems like a better deal than the Ralph Gift Cards people often get.

Because most people would not like all of the paperwork which would need to be done for a FFL to buy the firearm. It also involves a lot of money, not only to buy the firearms, but for advertising, plus politically speaking, it would not go over well.

LOL, we actually had one of our local city council members ask us one time what we thought about gun buybacks! Ha, that guy got more that he bargained for when he heard our POV on the issue. After my rant he was like "uhhh I never thought about all of that"

I think it would be a great idea the biggest issue I can see is coming up with the capitol needed to purchase the weapons.

It was unclear to me if there was an FFL involved or since PPTs are paperwork free in their state if it was all done as PPTs. Either way, in that state, there would have been MUCH less paperwork involved.

I thought about the possibility of a FFL offering to give "free appraisals" of the firearm to the gun-buyback patron. A sort of your 1911 that was grandpas is worth $XXX.XX and if you want to come to my store later I will pay you $YYY.YY for it.

Although I doubt that FFL would make many friends in the Sheriff's Office, PD, or City council that is sponsoring that event.

I think that there are people out there who don't understand firearms and the laws and are afraid to sell it to a licensee because they don't understand they legally own that gun. I see it all the time in the pawn shop. Wife has an old shotgun that her deceased husband had and is afraid to even come in and ask what she can do with it.

On the other hand though gun buybacks are a great way to get rid of all the guns you used in a crime! LOL, No ID, NO questions asked, Free Gift cards! Don't get me started. I wonder how many crimes could be solved by finding out who turns these guns and and where they came from.....

They are legit entertainment shows, just a very different reality :-).

I like the reality of Red Jacket Firearms. Consider the "drama" if they told the story of how Will and his daughter lost their FFL and put the LLC in the name of the "employees". Gunsmoke is another nice one. There was no 07FFL at that location until more recently (change of name on the FFL).

I knew about FJF losing their license. Although I never heard why. Just like us with pawn stars....Nothing entertaining about what we do here on a daily basis. I can't imagine the history channel wants to broadcast the hours I spend on CG learning about what I do for work...

Yes, but imagine the drama if they had admitted that Vince was actually listed as an owner. Drama is what they love, reality is to be ignored.
