    Intrafamilial PPT question

    Two scenarios:

    1.)
My sister has a Ca legal AR that she would like to give me, she recently gained residence and driver's license in Arizona where the gun was purchased. I am a Ca resident.

Does this require an FFL transfer? Or is it considered under:

    Long guns need no paper
27870 (was 12078(c)(1)) means long gun transfers between California-resident family members (grandparents/parents/children) are paperless. There is no fee, there is no notification, and there is no age limit. This is scheduled to change in January, 2014.

    2.)
My father bought a Ca legal AR. He would like to give it to me. We are both Ca residents?

Does this require an FFL transfer? Or is it considered under:

Thanks for all your help, and info.

    First scenario.

Federal law requires that the transfer go through an FFL because the two parties involved are residents of two different States. Even if you were both California residents you would still have to go through an FFL because transfers between siblings don't qualify under California's "family" exemption.

    Second scenario.

Your dad can give you a long gun without any paperwork or FFL involvement. Starting next year you would need to be 18+ years old and you would need to self register the long gun by mailing in a form and payment to CalDOJ.
