    Proper 30-Day Cancellation Procedure

I was going through my safe and paperwork and realized one of my customers never picked up a lower receiver (not a handgun) that he DROSed. It's been well over 30-days. What is the proper cancellation procedure for both the DROS and 4473, if any?

When I called him he said he just forgot.

I have the same thing happen, ironically with a lower as well. I just clicked "cancel dros", printed it and attached it to the original. On the 4473, I marked cancelled. But, this was at about day 31. If it is past the 60 or 90 day (I forgot how far back the dros software allows) I would think you would have to call DOJ.

There is a form which you are supposed to fill out and mail in. I will see if I can find it.

I can't find where I got the file from. As I recall, a DOJ person sent me a link. I thought it was strange that it was so hard to find.

        Here is the file:

Not a handgun though. I just wasn't sure what the steps were for a long gun, if any. Thanks

              IANAL, but...

I believe after the 30 days, a DROS is expired, and is essentially moot (especially for a long gun/receiver). I supposed to CYA you can enter the DROS menu and cancel it, although I think after awhile they fall off... and when you enter the review/correct/cancel menu you will not be able to pull up the DROS anymore.

I would just have the customer re-DROS. But again, I'm not a laywer Keep a copy of both DROS's with the 4473 just in case, and/or a copy of the DROS cancellation if you can obtain one.

The guy showed last night. I was able to CANCEL the DROS via CFIS although the information was all missing. I wasn't sure about the 4473; so, I had him do a new one with updated dates. I guess I'm covered.
