Need advice on an out of state ppt

A friend of mine while in the military had purchased a glock 40 a few years back and to my understanding since he got it at a show he didn't have to have it registered. fast forward to now, my Friend is living in China and has been for few years and has decided not to come back. He asked me If I wanted the gun as his mother does not want it in her house anymore. Is there any legal way I can obtain and register this gun? I would hate to pass up a free glock 40 but if there is no legal way to get it then of course I will. Thank you for your time, Im not sure at this point if his mother is currently out of state I believe she lives here but not sure, Of course to my understanding that is a no no. any help would be appreciated. for me and my friend of course.

If your friend's mother is a CA resident...
Friend's mother and you go to a CA FFL dealer and do a PPT.

If your friend's mother is non-resident of CA...
Friend's mother ships the handgun to a CA FFL dealer, who transfers it to you.

    In addition...
If the handgun is being shipped, then it needs to be on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale or exempt from it.
No large capacity (11+ round) magazines can be transferred to you.

Thanks for the reply, he did state that it only has 10 rounders That is the one thing I did know, I have never looked to see if a handgun is exempt or on I will look into that now. Do i need anything specific other than make and model? Does the serial come into play? Again thank you for your time.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
