Hi, I am active duty air force, and recently got stationed in california. I just purchased a firearm and need to do an out of state FFL transfer. Currently, i do not have a CA drivers licence, utility bill, or registration. Will my military ID and PCS orders (placing me in california) be enough for the DROS and 4473?

Yes. Pcs orders are valid as proof of residence. If the FFL says no, find a different one.Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

By the way, that's not necessarily California specific. I know a few Virginia FFLs that don't understand the law.Never initiate force against another. There are both CA and Federal issues. This is not a common occurrence as most people have a document which shows their address.
As it turns out, it is enough, both for CA and the Feds.
Don't expect a FFL to know all of the possible issues and sometimes FFL have to research issues. There are some FFLs who will just make assumptions and go with that, which might not be the correct thing to do. Yes, looking at the instructions for the 4473 is a good thing, since it says to write both the duty station and the residence address, but that does not address the CA issue, which is harder to get an answer for.Kemasa.

I was not worried about the DROS because mil ID is listed as one of the acceptable forms of ID in the purchaser information section. Additionally, the oag website says "a military ID accompanied by permanent duty station orders indicating a posting in California is also acceptable." I, however, have resolved this with the FFl I am working with and will continue to do business with him. Willingness to work with me and do his homework goes a long way in my book and my FFL did both and has been great in the process so far despite the short hiccup!Comment
