AR into CA w/o bullet button

Quick question. What do you do if the sending FFL ships an AR to you without a bullet button installed? Do you just return it to them, have them install a BB, then ship it back to you?

Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

im sure the legal thing would be to send it back...
its a shame because it takes all of 30 seconds to take the ar mag release button off and about as long to put the cali legal bb on.
I know i wasnt much help at all.

You still need to comply with ATF law and log it in your book. Then I would call and see what you are supposed to do with your A-salt weapon at that point. Good luck getting in touch with the DOJ!

There is no issue with respect to the Feds. I have been told that if you return it within 24 hours, you don't need to log it, although I still would.

The CA DOJ said to send it back the same day.

You can turn it over to the police and let the sender deal with it.

The best thing to do is to ensure that it does not happen. Don't give out your information to the other FFL until you are sure that they are going to send a non-so-called a-salt weapon.

It arrived in CA as a so-called a-salt weapon and that is a problem. Yes, you could violate the law and convert it and most likely no one would know.

If the upper was shipped separately, then it would be fine, but that is not what is being asked.

and if it was the DOJ that had it shipped that way to you or finds out about it YOU are going to the STATE PEN!

This is not socalrifles problem he did not mess up and commit a felony by shipping a AW to CA! Why would he want to LIE for some guy he dose not know and become an accessory to the unlawful importation of an AW!

It is not a good idea to promote illegal activities or admit to illegal activities on a public forum. People from government agencies are reading this forum (I have been told by people in the DOJ and BATF that they read this forum).

It should not be a matter of what you can get away with. Also, as mentioned, what if it was a sting operation? Personally, I assume that every customer is from the CA DOJ, CA BOE, BATF and every other agency, especially if there is any issue.

BTW, it would not be Club Fed as it is a CA issue.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm sending it back. I called the dealer and the owner said that his partner must have overlooked it. He was apologetic and had no problems sending a return shipping label.
