Question about ordering a stripped lower.

I called a few gun stores asking for transfer rates. I got the transfer rates, but one shop told me that I would need a proof of residency when ordering a stripped lower, and another told me that it needs to be shipped with a bullet button installed. Others told me that ordering a stripped lower is just like ordering a long gun but i also have to be 21.

So, do i need a bullet button installed before shipping?
Do i need a proof of residency in addition to a driver's license?

I have no intentions in building it as a pistol (which I think can only be built from a 80% lower) and I'm most likely going to be ordering the lower from PSA.

    Thanks

A stripped lower is neither a handgun nor a long gun. It is an "other" type firearm. You need to be 21. Since it is not a handgun you do not need to provide proof of residency unless your DL has the wrong (or no) physical address. Then a second government-issued document with your name and current physical address will need to be provided. Since a stripped lower is not a centerfire semi-auto firearm with a detachable magazine and other "evil" features, it does not need a mag-lock device.

      Okay, I understand.

So, those select gun stores I mentioned are either misinformed or playing it safe?

      Thank you for responding.

Except for the part about being 21, yes.

Also, a lower is not a semi-auto firearm without an upper, so for the same reasons, it does not need a bullet button. You could make a bolt action or a rimfire firearms, neither of which would require a bullet button. Also, if it is featureless, then it would not need a bullet button. A lower does not have any of the features as well.

Sorry about the late response. Im near the West Covina area. So far I've found Alamo jewelry and loan, Wimpeys, Aces jewelry and loan, straighline tactical, entreprise arms, labert pawn, and Azusa pawn.

I've dealt with the guys at Alamo, they're great judging from my experiences with them. However, they don't have the cheapest transfer rates I've found. Any recommendations?

              Thanks everybody for the info.

I agree, I'll gladly give my support to a store that treats me better even though they may charge a little more over someone who charges less but doesn't treat me well.

Although, every shop should treat their customers well in my opinion, but that doesn't seem to be the case unfortunately.
