    Ship without shipment approval?

What if a vendor ships something to our shop without obtaining a shipment approval letter?

I also email them to make a paper trail in case I get inspected before it comes.

If you don't have the CFLC letter, then you can ask for it and if you don't get it, then you need to ship it back. I have wondered if it would be acceptable to just turn it over to the police so that you don't have to pay for shipping.

I tell people (customers) that ^^ up front before I send my FFL to the seller.
I also make it painfully clear that I will not pay for shipping back to the seller. If someone (other than me) does not pay for return shipping within 24 hours, then I also make it painfully clear that I WILL surrender the firearm to the local police department.

May seem a bit harsh to some, but I don;t want to amass too many negative points they can call me on during an inspection, so I make sure both (the seller) and buyer know that the authorization letter is mandatory.

Of course I have not had to do that yet, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure right?

Happened to me recently on a GunBroker.com sale. The sender was totally unresponsive to emails and his voice mailbox was full. Tried for a week. Sent it back at a cost to the buyer. A week later it showed back-up with the CFLC letter!! Why didn't the dolt just get that to me in the first place?

People are lazy. Perhaps he thought that he could get away with it, but when the firearm arrived back, then he had to do something if he wanted the money.

Yes there is a review section on the senders end. I use it all the time to look up CFLCs for new shipments.

It is also possible, but a pain, to call the CA DOJ and ask them to look up any shipments to you (FFLs should be able to do that on their own).

That's what I thought on the senders end only an as Kemasa said both parties should be able to research that on their own. Make life way easier.

I'm amazed at how simply lazy people can be. It only takes a few seconds to generate a letter. I've seen people charge people to do this. Crazy.
