    Transfer question(s)

Hello all. I'm new here and found this forum through a Google search trying to find info on intrafamilial transfers. Sorry if this is the wrong page to post this.
My deceased Father had a Walther PPK/S .380 that I have had in my gun safe since he died 6 years ago. My Mother is still alive and "gave" me the Walther along with other guns. No transfer was done and my Dad didn't have a Will. I'd like to add the Walther to my CCW.

I don't know when my Dad got the gun, but I'm guessing that he traded for it. My guess is that he's had it for over 20 years. I'm not sure it's registered. Is there a way to run the serial number and determine if it's registered and if so to who? Can I register it or does the gun automatically go to my Mom? If it goes to Mom, does she need to register it in her name and then transfer to me via the Intrafamilial?

    Thanks for your help
    GL

You should fill out the Intrafamilial transfer form on the CA DOJ web site.

I believe that without a will the firearm would go to your Mother.

Presuming all parties live in California, Mom, herself, should have filed the OPLAW form when she inherited the gun. If she gives it to you, you file the same form.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
