I only deal in long guns currently. I don't sell handguns. I was reading the ca DOJ website and read that since I don't sell handguns I don't have to be able to administer the HSC. I called ca DOJ to confirm this and they said this is true. So if I wanted to do a pistol transfer I would still need to get my training certificate to be able to give the HSD correct? The HSD is give to all non-exempt people anytime ownership is transferred correct?

Yes, you need to be a "instructor" to do the HSD. Yes, most of the time the HSD is required.
You can get another person to do the HSD, but then if you do handgun transfers, you have have to do handgun PPTs, which could be a problem if you don't have a person all the time to do it.Kemasa.

Guess its time to find someone who can certify me as an instructor locally. May as well get it done.Comment
