    Serial number location question

    Hey folks,

I have a question for the manufacturers among us!

On an AR15 platform rifle, is there a requirement as to where the serial number, caliber, manufacturer, and manufacturer location is engraved/stamped? Or does it simply have to be located on the outside of the receiver?

I've seen some that put all of the company info on the left and others that only put a roll mark on the left, leaving the nitty gritty details for the right side of the mag well. Is it the player's choice?

    Thanks!

I don't remember seeing any instructions on where to mark the information. I've had trouble finding serial numbers on numerous firearms. Many revolvers have their serial numbers hidden on the crane so the cylinder has to be opened to see it.

You should be able to put it where you want. Inside or outside should be fine so long as it includes all the relevant info and it is over .003" deep. I recommend going .006" to .009" deep to make sure you don't have a problem.
