Quick question - .22LR Rifle (waiting period) and does it count against 30 day perio

I think I know the answer, but in case I'm wrong (haven't purchased a .22LR file in 20 years).
Is there a 10 day waiting period on .22LR rifles?

Just saw a fun plinking .22LR rifle on sale this week.

Secondly, I know you can only buy 1 handgun a month, but does that apply to rifles?

i.e. if I go pick up this .22LR - does that effect my ability to buy a handgun in the next 30 days (actively searching for either a P229, H&PK 2000 or CZ-75 compact in stainless (all in 9mm) - buying all three eventually anyhow (the sig to compliment my P226, etc.). Hence why I'm open... whatever shows up first.

However, don't want this fun little plinking gun - as Murphy's law would have it ... screw that up. Because you know, I'd buy this and 2 days later, a P2000 or P229 would pop-up.

Not at all. You could buy a new rifle every day of the year and it would have zero effect on the 1 per 30 day handgun restriction.

Unless exempt, 10-day wait applies to all firearms purchases.

1-in-30 applies to handguns only, but not to Private Party Transfers of handguns.

As far as the 30 day wait, I don't know if this is typical of all shops but my gun shop has done this for me. If you are under the 30 day wait you can still purchase the gun (to hold it). You then have to wait for the initial 30 days to run out and then process the DROS for the gun you have on hold. So in theory if you found all three guns you could buy all three but would have to wait in 30 day increments for each gun. if my math is correct it would take you a min of 70 days to collect all three guns. 10 days for first, 30 for second, 30 for third. In this economy if you find the gun you have been looking for, buy it!

Thanks for all the replies. Wasn't sure if the 10 day hold was for rim carts (.22lr) as well or had changed. I've only purchased one .22LR in my life when I was 18 and didn't recall waiting for it.. this was also 1991, lol.

p.s. on a side note - since I mentioned it in here and there is some discussion...

are the only sig's -- p229's in specific the ones denoted with the R legal now (p229R)? I don't care about a rail but is that is all that is legal / roster... my universe gets smaller by the minute. Saw a great P229 Elite, then did the roster check routine... and didn't see it.

FYI.
Back in 1991, the waiting period was 15 days but it did not apply to C&R rifles/shotguns.
In 1997, the waiting period was changed 10 days and was also changed to affect C&R rifles/shotguns.

Actually, the waiting period was not changed, the additional 5 days for the mail was removed since the DROS was being electronically submitted, instead of being mailed, which eliminated the 5 additional days.

Practically speaking, it was reduced from 15 to 10 days, but it is good to be accurate :-).

For handguns, you can only DROS one handgun every 30 days. You can buy as many as you want. So yes you can come to my store, buy one each of the three Springfield 1911s I have in stock. We would start your ten day wait on your favorite immediately. You would pick it up 10-30 days later (remember your DROS expires after 30 days and it must be re-run if you did not pick up and you must wait another 10 days). Then 30 days after first DROS date, you would come in and start the second handgun. And repeat the process.

I have had up to like 6-8 pistols in my safe for one customer.
