Question about transferring a lower to an FFL

So I bought a compete lower online tuesday night since it was in stock.

My mistake I didn't do any research and just bought it knowing it would go OOS and picked a FFL in my town.

So the next day the lower shipped out, I called the FFL and they quoted me $180!!! for the transfer fees, didn't mention if that included $25 DROS.

So today the lower was delivered and ready for me to come in, is it possible to request the FFL to ship it to another FFL that doesn't charge such a ridiculous amount?

Even with shipping costs it should save me money in the end.

let's say $300 + $30 shipping +$85 transfre fee +$30 dros =$445 X8.25% tax is $36.71 so your at $481.71 back out the $330 you paid seller and your at $151.71 due to the ffl

you get the idea. With that said most dealers charge more then $85 most are $100. Now i under stand that $100 on a $300 lower might sound like alot but keep in mind that it takes the same amount of time and paper work to do a $50 or $5000 gun.

I paid $223.91 for the NFA complete lower, that includes tax and shipping.

Yes, but the FFL will charge you some unknown amount to ship it. Plus the fee of the new dealer to transfer it to you. Another option is to see if dealer #1 will buy it outright from you. May be cheaper that route if you can get another.

I guess it depends on how much they will charge to ship it again. Because I found another place that will do it for $75 + $25 DROS. So that would save me at least $50 assuming its $30 ship.

How did you pick a dealer without talking to them, asking their fee, and directing them where to send ther FFL? $180 sounds ridiculous but they can charge whatever they want.

I ordered it from rifle gear, their website said they already had their FFL on file.

Anyways I'm going to goto the shop tomorrow morning and see if they can make a deal or how much to ship to another FFL.

If its too much then I'll just bite the bullet and pay the $180 and learn a valuable lesson.

Although, you should have checked fees before you did it, $180 is outrageous! I'd pay them, and let everybody within 20' of you in the store get an earful. Really embarrass them in front of their customers, at least so they know the next time they pull that on somebody, they're possibly inviting that kinda of angry outburst in the store again.

I'm in the process of completing an out-of-state transfer, and was lied to on both ends about the fees, but for me it only meant an extra $15. So although it irked me, I'm just taking it as a lesson of, who not to do business with again.

PS- Don't say anything until you have the lower in your hands.

im from the bay area, maybe i shouldve just drove down to Riflegear to start the paperwork. $180 should just about cover the gas money i'd need for both trips

anyways i know better now to next time check the fees first, even if it means the lower MAY go out of stock online.

I am trying to build my first rifle/gun so I am new to this and didnt know better.

Did you click on the link I posted? Their post in their vendor forum, clearly lists their fees of $75 + $25. You should print that and point it out to them.

i bought the lower from Riflegear and transferred it to a store in the east SF bay area. the store in the SF bay area is going to charge me $180.

anyways i went in and it was $180 which includes the DROS. i just went with it to get it over with. but i will not be using their services again.

I've learned my lesson with this and will find out the fees first even if it means the item i want goes out of stock.
