I'm the buyer, if I purchase a handgun from a fellow Calgunner and I am denied and money is exchanged is it up to seller to give money back to me? Will I also be advised by the place conducting ppt?
Now let's say the seller has had some issues with DOJ how does that affect me? Who will be notified? Will I be refused the exchange even if my DROS come back ok? And again will I be SOL out of money already exchanged

if you come back with a clean record, the only way the PPT would be denied would be if the firearm itself is reported as lost or stolen. The seller's info is irrelevant until the buyer is denied and the gun needs to be returned to the seller; at which point a check is done on the seller

So as stupid as it'd be to DROS a lost or stolen gun the serial is only checked during 10 day period

I had two guys come in once to do a PPT, a few days later we get a call from a PD stating that the gun came up as stolen.

You agreed to buy it, so the seller would not have to give the money back, but they get the firearm or it is turned over to the police. It would be up to what you agree to with the seller as what to do.

Yes, they should inform you, but you should already know if you have an issue. If you are unsure, you can fill out a form to check.

As far as I know, the seller is only checked if the buyer is denied.

If the firearm was reported lost or stolen, then it is up to you to get the money back, which can be difficult since I suspect the seller would not have much interest in giving your money back.

For a PPT, that is the only time it could be checked, but if the FFL buys the firearm from a private party, then the serial number is checked through the FDAS (secondhand dealer) process.

It would be nice if there was another means of checking, such as a National public database of stolen firearms. This would allow people to check to see if the firearm was stolen in the Free States before buying a firearm.
