I tried getting this answered in a different thread, but most of the people responding did not even bother to read the post completely. Most of the responses were people saying I shouldn't worry about the things I explicitly stated I wasn't worried about.

So I'm going to try here and lessen the focus of my question. I am not an FFL, so I do not know what the DROS input screen looks like. So here's my question:

Is the handgun make and model entered into the DROS software (not just the paperwork form)?

If so, does CA-DOJ check the model against the roster for non-exempt buyers or is the onus of that entirely on the FFL?

Yes. Make / model / SN /CAL / length of Barrel / color-colors

The screen has "drop downs"

Has a box for "exempt" and then you input LEO info or other "exempt" info

Thanks, that answers my question. I'll have to talk to the FFL I just put money down on a gun with. It was not listed LEO only, but it isn't rostered. Luckily they can do an SSE.

that might be what they were planing to do any way. I do SSE on HK's and G4 Glocks. If you see a non roster gun on display in the shop that I can sse. I will sell it to you. some people do not know what SSE is so its just ezer to sell it and do the sse and every one is happy

They charge $50 for SSE normally and it was never brought up. I'm wondering if they thought it was a different model than it is. It's a Sig reverse two tone traditional 1911. I'm wondering if the person that put it out thought it was a Sig reverse two tone 1911 TTT.
