Reserving HSC?

So its almost impossible to find a LGS with any test booklets for HSC...

But... The Hunters Blind in Grass Valley has some... But they will only let you have one if you buy a gun from them.. and they have little or no stock..

Is it legal for them to "reserve" them??

either way it seems crappy...

still looking for a store that I can test at... since a CHL is no longer accepted.

Of course it is legal...they own them and can sell them to customers only if they choose.

HSC are prepaid by Certified Instructors and are not transferable to other Instructors. The may have a limited supply which they may wish to use for their customers. I have a few left but if you are talking about Grass Valley, you may be too far to visit me in Mountain View.

I had the same problem at a Livermore gunstore. I was told that they've been waiting quite a while for a new supply of HSCs. Luckily a nearby shop was willing to do the HSC with the PPT.

Any chance there's a gun show coming up near you? Might be your best bet.

First are you talking about the study booklets or the actual HSC test certificates? I think you mean the actual tests you receive when you pass.

By CHL do you mean what the state refers to as a CCW? If you have a CA CCW, you are still exempt from the HSC. edit: I see you mean California Hunting License. Those are no longer exempt documents. You need an HSC as you now know.

And yes, they can sell those to whoever they want. I agree that if you have nothing left to sell, why not make $10 on a HSC test and make a guy happy. However, I also agree that if you have some items to sell and you are running low, I would rather make the $10 and the money on a handgun than just give the test to some random guy that comes into the store.

CHL... California Hunting license.

I was at the Auburn Gun show yesterday.. More guns there than I thought would be.. but nobody doing HSCs.

I now understand that they are bought and paid for by the store.. So it makes sense to keep them for the customers that buy a gun..

Ill keep calling around... So far there are none within a hour of me.. Mountain view may be worth the drive...

Ran into the same issue a while back. Took mine at the Cow Palace gun show.
