Logging family C&R guns in bound book?

New to this as I've just acquired my FFL03/C&R license.

I did do a search of this and the C&R thread but found nothing related to my question; which is.....

I have a number of family guns that were handed down to me 30 years ago (or more). They range in manufacture dates from 1882 to 1936. I've read that you should log C&R's bought prior to getting your license in your bound book (which I will do for the Garand I purchased from CMP last year) but there is no mention of logging family guns.

Should I log my family guns as well?

Basically we're talking about a few guns. An 1882 dbl bbl shotgun, a late 1800's remington derringer, an old 1873 marlin pistol, and an old .22 pump rifle from 1936. The point I'm stuck on is "purchased".

Perhaps I should just log them in anyway in case I ever sell one. I think now that I have the license I'm bound to log the sale of those as well.

Only if you sell them. Why write stuff down you don't have to?

No, you do not log C & R guns that you bought prior to having your license. If you were to sell them then you need to log them as being disposed. You only put down guns that you acquired or disposed of using your license.

Yes, it appears to be in the 5300.4 book. I'll take all your advice and read up on it later.

I just got my info packet today. There is a memo with it that says: Open Letter To All Recently Federally Licensed Collectors of Curio or Relic Firearms Wow, what a mouth full. It tells about it. If you can't find yours I can scan it and post it.
