The two big shops are Center Mass and Guns and Fishing.

Center Mass has a sign that says they won't do private transfers unless you're a member (225 to become a member)

Guns and Fishing has upset many a person, and is difficult to deal unless you're buying from them.

Might try Afana's. I've never dealt with them so I can't make a recommendation. It's getting a little tough. I would consider somewhere outside of VV.

    Sorry.

Center Mass will do a private transfer. I was involved with one at the end of Nov. and also saw another one taking place last month. I would go to Center Mass first and then if they can't do it try the gunsmith who is an FFL in the next building over. Guns fishing and other stuff is probably too busy right now to even try...but they have been very good customer service wise lately. GFOS is a good store, it's hard to please everyone.

Guns and Fishing, would be a no. Lots of stuff, few good sales people.

Center Mass, depends on who's in that day. I was advised of $100 net transfer fee.

There is a small shop (Afana's?) a block over from Center Mass. Request Lee, he's a good guy, and a joy to deal with.

I used Center Mass just a few weeks back. Not a member and for a private party transfer i paid $35. Quick, good customer service.

            Afana's

As mentioned, Lee and his daughter are great. I've bought a couple guns and done transfers through them.
Anybody who says anything positive about GFOS other than window shopping needs their head checked. They won't touch PPT's unless its weekend and they still make you wait. Plus they are the biggest FUD spreaders I've ever witnessed.

I think I would go with a Telecaster. The bolt on neck would be the strongest to deal with terrorist zombies. I know most folks will say Strat, but I think the trem system is unreliable.

I used Afana's and they were okay except they tried to overcharge for a PPT. If it is a non-PPT transfer, I understand that they probably have the best prices in the area. If it is a PPT, call ahead to ensure that they will charge you (they tried to charge me a $30 storage fee) for $65 total on a PPT.

                that's strange,

I just did a PPT at Afana's last week and they charged $35.
This was for a handgun. Not that it should differ from anything else.

The gunsmith I mentioned is BAF Specialties, they are on the same side of the street as Center Mass, next building over to the left.

I went there to take the handgun test, nice people.

TheDeej, sounds like they have revised their policies. Good to hear!

I wasn't aware of this place, I'll have to check them out.

I just bought 3 lowers from Afana's and they said they would be happy to do the transfer paperwork when I am ready to sell. They seemed like great people and I will definitely be back to do business with them in the future. I have never had a good experience at guns, fishing, and other stuff.... stay away from them if possible! I give Center Mass 6/10., they are just O.K. If you want someplace that appreciates your business in VV then Afana's is where you want to be.
