    Assault Weapons Permit

    Hello Everyone

First, I'd like to formally introduce myself. My name is Rob and I'm the owner of So-Cal Rifles LLC in Irvine, CA. I'm a new FFL and home based for now. This account is pretty new but I have been a member of CG as an individual for many years now. I've had the pleasure of meeting and shooting with several fellow members over the years at Angeles. I have learned so much from this forum and its members. You guys really helped me through the FFL application process, and hopefully I can start to give back and contribute my knowledge and experiences. Thanks.

My question is regarding an Assault Weapons Permit for FFLs in CA. I would like to sell AR and AK platform rifles to out-of-state customers. I am assuming that I would need this special permit because I would be in possession of an Assault Rifle. Please let me know if I am right on this.

And if so, where can I find the application? I've searched the DOJ website but either my search skills are really horrible or they are making it hard to find. In any case, if someone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.

    Rob

However I would wait to put in your application until we see where all the BS in DC goes.

You cannot possess assault weapons unless you have the permit. My understanding is the AW permit is a bit expensive and it costs per gun as well. If that is the case, I am not sure how you are going to be competitive and still have a life once the panic dies.

I have no desire to get an AW permit. Too much hassle for too little return.

Use the Dangerous Weapons Permit. Check any boxes that might apply to your situation. Be sure to read each Penal Code indicated for each license/permit. The cost for application is $321 for the first check box and $22 for each additional. If you check all 5 the cost is $409 ($321+$22+$22+$22+$22). For Personal Information question #8, check yes and include a copy of your FFL (I also sent copies of my CFD, SOT, business license, etc. I figured send any document they might ask for). After the initial fee, yearly inspection fees are based on inventory: 0-4: $165; 5-25: $750; 26 or more: $1500. To me that means clear out inventory before the end of the year to keep at quantity 4 for lowest cost.

Good cause is up to you. None of us know if importation to make CA legal or exportation to other states is reason enough.

I sent my application a few weeks ago and haven't heard anything yet. I checked all the boxes and paid the full amount.

Received a reply on my DWP. It wasn't a denial but a request for more information and proof of security compliance which will take some time to sort out. So that good news. I think I will need CGF help in the future.

I applied about 30 days for the Assault Weapon, Short Barreled Rifle and Machine Gun Permit. I figured each additional was only $22 so you might as well apply for all the ones you could possibly maybe use.
