Buying S&W Model 36 for CCW

I'm going to apply for a CCW and I am looking at buying a used Smith & Wesson 36 .38 caliber from a private party with transfer at local FFL. Since the gun is not on the DOJ approved list will my application still go thru if I list the S&W as my primary firearm?. Can I even purchase the gun since it's not on the list?

Private party transfers (PPT) do not have to be on the DOJ list. The list is only for NEW guns

As for the CCW you can put any pistol you own on it. Some places will tell you that they do not alow some CAL's like .22 or 44mag (SMCO must be .38 / 380 or larger / no 44 mag)

Additionally, the Model 36 is an excellent carry gun. It's not very accurate, and it's not very comfortable to shoot, but it carries well. A defensive weapon doesn't do you any good if it's too big to carry. At defensive fire distances (typically contact to six feet), bullseye accuracy isn't needed.

Be careful of hammer snag on clothing. That's a common problem with "J" frame, exposed hammer guns. Modern "J" frames now come with shrouded hammers. That's also good for keeping gunk out of the action.
If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.
