Pistol Drop in Conversion Question

Hi folks,
I just bought an XD9 Subcompact, and am interested in getting an optional .40 conversion (is .45 compatible?). I asked my local gun shop, and the salesman told me that they don't sell them nor can they order them for me due to the fact that pistols have to have the barrels and slides (is a new slide necessary for this?) have matching serial numbers with the frame.

Is this true? If he is incorrect, and this is possible, is this a legal CCW configuration (differing SNs)?

If he's right, is a PPT possible?

The barrel and slides do not have to have a serial number on it. Some manufacturers do, most likely to mark what was originally sold with the firearm from the factory, but you can replace a barrel and it just won't have a serial number on it.

Do you know if the XD9 Sub is able to accept a .40 drop in conversion? I'm only seeing .40 to 9mm, not the other way around.

The xD40 was based on the xd9 frame from what I have read so 40 and 9 slides interchange. I know it's true for the xd9sc and xd40sc. Complete slides and barrels.

As far as the drop in barrel you only see 40--->9 because there will be extractor issues going from 9--->40. Have you tried the XD forums? That is where I got my info from.
