Need So Cal FFL for interstate intrafamilial xfer

hey all,

Does anyone know a Southern California (near Los Angeles?) FFL that understands and is willing to handle an interstate transfer from my father in AZ to me in CA?

To reiterate: I need an FFL that will be willing to accept a pistol shipped from Arizona (preferably from a non-licensed person, my father) and do an intrafamilial transfer to me here in CA.

I've made a half dozen calls to local shops and I'm either told to just pick the pistol up in person, bring it home and do the DOJ form (illegal), or they just have no idea what I'm talking about. When confused, most default to not wanting to deal with it.

Any ideas?

This would not be treated as an intrafamilial transfer since your father is in another state. It will be treated like a standard transfer. As you mentioned, your father would like to ship directly to an FFL. This is legal but some FFL's have a policy against it. I've seen some folks on the board recommend www.ammobros.com for transfer. RifleGear in Fountain Valley has done out-of-state intra-familial transfers.

It is an intrafamilial transfer, but it just happens to be from out of state, so it has to go through a FFL. Being an intrafamilial transfer means that the handgun is exempt from the certified list for CA, which makes it different than a standard transfer.

I have called at least a dozen FFL's here in San Diego. I get the same response as you stated broofy. I have even read to them the post by bweise and they still say they can't do it. They say they can only do in state intrafamilial transfers, not a out of state.

There is no point in going through a FFL if it is an in-state intrafamiliar transfer.

I would suggest talking to the FFLs and see if they are willing to call the CA DOJ. The DOJ will tell them to use the SB15 exemption on the DROS system, which would be the same exact way if the firearm was shipped to them, either from in or out of state.

Proof that it is a intrafamilial transfer is always a good idea.

It is never a "PPT" when the seller (or the buyer) is from another state. PPTs are only between two California residents.

The advice on going to see your father and picking up the gun and then driving back and mailing the DOJ registration is legal as far as I understood (but I'm not a lawyer).

In this case, that is not legal since it involves residents of two different states, which requires that the firearm go through a FFL in the buyer's/transferee's home state.
