PPT in CA to CA resident from non-CA resident ?

Can I receive as PPT a firearm at my local CA FFL from a non-CA resident while they are here on a visit?

    Thank you?

If so would they just need ID from their state, proof of address/ veh. registration?

nope. it would need to be shipped to an FFL in the buyer's state.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Thank you. to clarify what i understand is a private party from out of state can mail a firearm and copy of ID direct to my ffl here in CA where i can then have it DROSed to me but what im understanding from you is that the same private party from out of state can't provide in person the firearm and ID at a CA FFL for a CA buyer to purchase and DROS? Im not trying to be argumentative I just want to be certain. Do they have to first leave the state and ship it back from out of state? ill be more specific. I have family member in town (CA) from Oregon whom I will purchase a pistol from. Since it appears we cant go together to FFL can it be shipped here local across town to my FFL for me to go and DROS or is there a requirement for it to be shipped from state of origin?

I think ke6guj misunderstood what you were asking. It's perfectly legal for an out of state resident to bring a firearm in person to a California licensed dealer to be transfered to a California resident. Just be aware that some FFLs have a policy of not accepting transfers from non-FFLs. Also be aware that since the seller doesn't have a California ID or DL the transfer isn't eligible for the $35 maximum fee. The dealer can charge whatever he wants for doing the transfer.

Also, if the firearm is a handgun, it will need to be on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale or be exempt from it, because this is not a PPT due to the seller being a non-resident of CA.

yes, for some reason I read the OP as if the CA resident was the seller and the non-CA resident was the buyer.

sorry about that. the rest of the posts properly answered your true question.

All PPTs are between CA residents ONLY. A out of state seller can not do a PPT IN CA. THer eis no place for any ID information on the DROS tht will accept a out of state ID. If someone out of state wants to sell to a CA resident the firearm must be shipped into CA and if it is a handgun it MUST be on the roster. In other words, both the buyer and seller in a PPT must be CA residents.

It can also be hand delivered by the seller to the California licensed dealer. It doesn't have to be shipped in.

In CA, a PPT is defined as a transfer between two CA residents. If the firearm is from a non-CA resident, then it is just a transfer, not a PPT.

As said, the firearm can be shipped or personally brought it. The FFL may only receive shipments (or firearms for that matter) from other FFLs, which is their choice, but not the law.

The ID required would be what the CA FFL requires, although generally an ID is a good thing to see since the FFL needs to log where the firearm came from.

Sorry to be repetitive but I want to get this correct. My friend in Nevada can sell me an AR w/bullet button installed. My friend would have to send it or deliver it to my local ffl. At that point my ffl would fill out the dros and a transfer to me. Then after the waiting period I can take possession of the firearm.

Is there anything I'm missing? Any other forms? Or do I have it all wrong?

I don't want any legal issues with my friend, ffl or myself.

Again I'm sorry for being repetitive just never done an out of state purchase.

If it is not banned by name.

Correct. It is not a PPT and fees are not limited.

You need to have a valid CA ID/DL. If the address on it is not your current address, then you need a government document with your address on it.

You also need to check with your FFL to ensure that they will accept a firearm from a non-FFL and are willing to do the transfer, as well as the fees.

Thanks Kemasa. My FFL is cool with the transfer.

I guess I am repeating what was said.
If its a handgun and not of the Calif roster of handguns, then a big NO.
Through Gun Auctions last summer, there were 2 Walther PPK's that the middleman at a gunshop in SoCal was selling. I talked to him and I was willing to pay more than the Reserve price to be met. I traveled down south.
The seller/middleman then called when I arrived down south and told me the owner was out of state living in Chicago.
                            I couldnt do it.
The owner/seller must do a face to face transaction and paperwork at the local FFL gun store/shop.
Both owner and buyer must be Calif residents to do a PPT. I have gotten other Walther's before, but all sellers/owners were Calif residents.
Just thought I would give my input and what i experienced.
